Background:
Swannington is a small village primary school for children aged five to 11 years. The village of Swannington is situated in a rural position in the northwest of the county, approximately two miles from the town of Coalville. The school building was opened in the early 1860s and houses a large open plan teaching area, which serves two classes, a smaller closed classroom in the main building and a mobile classroom in the school grounds. Outside there is a large playing field, two playground areas, a small-grassed area and an environmental area with a pond. The school offers a series of clubs where children can stay behind after-school to follow a particular interest. These activities are advertised termly and have included football, tennis, kwik cricket, athletics, sewing, rugby, unihoc and country dancing. The school aims to provide a happy, friendly and caring environment where learning can take place.
