Background:

Founded in 1907, the over-subscribed school is situated in Little Bowden, a village on the outskirts of Market Harborough. Around a quarter of pupils come from outside the school's catchment area. 'Excellent' sporting facilities and the local swimming pool are used for physical education. Various sports teams have competed in county tournaments. Teaching of the curriculum can be adapted from whole class teaching to group or one to one work where necessary. There is setting for English and maths in some age groups. Extra-curricular sporting, musical and recreational activities are 'a strength' of the school. They seek to maintain a 'partnership' with parents, particularly through the fundraising parent-teacher association. Links with the community are 'strong' and the local environment is used 'as much as possible to give the children concrete experiences'. Children regularly raise money for charity, and Year 6 leavers organise an annual charity fundraising day for the school. Pupils are encouraged to see education as an 'active and continuing' process.
