Background:

South Wigston High School is a much larger than average foundation middle school. The school'serves South Wigston and Glen Parva, south of the city of Leicester, and it is over-subscribed. The school provides good facilities for all subjects and is always striving to improve the quality of the learning environment. Classrooms are comfortable with modern furnishings. The science laboratories are modern and well equipped. There are two computer suites with the latest technology, a suite for computer aided design and manufacturing, and several interactive whiteboards. There are extensive playing fields for games and outdoor activities, including a mini assault course. The school has thriving clubs and activities both at lunchtime and after school. These include ICT club, choir, orchestra, chess club, dance club, reading club, art club etc. Performing arts activities include the production of a school play, a talent show, concerts and other musical and dance events. In addition a wide variety of sporting activities are also offered. The school has excellent relationships with parents and local community. The school's aim is that everyone who learnsand works there enjoys the greatest success.
