Background:
Viscount Beaumont's Church of England Primary School was initially established in 1702 by Viscount Beaumont. It is currently housed in a building which was built in 1867 by Canon Beaumont. Children from the small village of Coleorton, where the school is situated, attend the school as well as pupils from the surrounding areas, whose parents have chosen the school for denominational reasons. Extra-curricular activities include a writers' circle, craft club, French club, football coaching, cross-country running, musical tuition and choir. The school team plays in a football league, and in 1999 the choir won its section in the Coalville music festival. Major building works are planned to start in December 2004, for two new classrooms, small gym rooms, a new kitchen, and toilets with disabled access.
