Background:

Founded in 1955 and then rebuilt in 1989, the school building consists of double bases for Key Stage 1, single teaching bases for Key Stage 2 and two double mobiles, as well as a kiln, library and information technology suite. There are extensive grounds, including a field, two playgrounds, a tennis court, lounge and a flooded ravine with boardwalk for environmental work. Montrose's catchment area consists of mixed private and council housing. There is a good Parent-Teacher Association, which is currently raising money for a new information technology suite. The school also has links with local churches and the local dancing school. Charity work is towards organisations such as McMillan Cancer Relief, meningitis and Rainbow. Pupils can participate in several extra-curricular activities including football and netball clubs which, have won various cups. Musical education includes tuition in piano, flute, trumpet, cornet, and other stringed instruments. There is a school orchestra and choir which sings in concerts in De Montfort Hall. Years 3 and 4 attend residential trips to Norfolk, and older year groups have residential trips to Weymouth or Llanduduo. The school aims to provide an atmosphere and environment, which will stimulate an enthusiasm for work.
