Background:

The Beauchamp College moved in 1964 to new buildings in Oadby, a rapidly growing residential suburb four miles south of Leicester city centre. The college is now fully comprehensive and receives pupils at age 14 from two neighbouring high schools. It serves Oadby and villages up to eight miles distant, with more than 30 per cent of students coming from outside the catchment area. Facilities include science laboratories, a language laboratory, a design centre with exhibition area, a music suite with seven practice rooms, a PE building with multi-gym, and a psychology suite. Most faculties have a computer hub. A new building with a drama theatre and six classrooms for economics and media studies was completed in 1996, and a new academic block with seven rooms and conference room in 1999. A sixth form extension is now planned. The school also offers foreign exchanges, overseas work experience, annual ski trips and A-level residential visits. As a community college, Beauchamp also provides a range of courses and facilities for the local community.
